ME: Dear God, I'm tired.
GOD: I know.
ME: No, I mean really tired. Not the kind of tired that goes away after a good night's sleep.
ME: I'm tired of thinking about everything. I'm tired of trying to be patient, trying to be kind, trying to do the right thing.
I'm tired of being needed. And then feeling guilty for being tired of it.
GOD: You don't have to explain your exhaustion to Me.
ME: But I have so much to be grateful for.
GOD: I know.
ME: So why does everything feel so heavy?
GOD: Because gratitude doesn't make you incapable of getting tired.
ME: I feel like I should be handling things better.
GOD: Who told you that?
ME: I don't know. I just thought by now I'd be better at all of this.
GOD: At being human?
ME: At not letting everything get to me. At trusting You. At not worrying so much.
GOD: My child, trusting Me doesn't mean you'll never feel overwhelmed. Sometimes trusting Me looks like coming here with absolutely nothing left to give.
ME: That's pretty much all I've got tonight.
GOD: Then that's enough.
ME: I don't even know what to pray for.
GOD: Then don't ask for anything. Just stay a little while.
ME: And do what?
GOD: Nothing.
ME: Nothing?
GOD: You spend so much of your life trying to be everything everyone needs.
GOD: You come to Me with lists of things to fix, people to help, and ways you think you need to improve.
But you know what I love?
ME: What?
GOD: When you come not because you're tired.
When you stop trying to make our time together productive.
When you remember that you're not another problem I need to solve.
You're My child.
And sometimes, I just want you to let Me be your Father.
ME: So I can just sit here?
GOD: Of course.
ME: Even if I fall asleep?
GOD: Especially then.
